How long does it take to write a poem on the spot?
It depends on the complexity of the story and the length of the poem. I work quickly, but I never rush - each piece gets the attention it deserves.
What if I don't know what to say or don't think I have a good story?
You don't need to come prepared with anything profound. Most people start with something simple, such as a person they're thinking about, a memory from the event, even just a feeling. I'll ask questions that help draw out what matters, and we'll find the poem together.
Do you write in a specific style or form?
My style is free verse: lyrical, image-driven, and rooted in the natural world and human experience. I don't typically write in strict forms like sonnets or haikus unless specifically requested.
How far in advance should I book for an event?
For weddings and larger events, I recommend booking 2-3 months in advance. Markets and festivals often have shorter lead times. If your event is coming up soon, reach out anyway as I may have availability.
Do you travel for events?
Yes! I'm based in SW Florida, but I travel for events throughout the Southeast USA (and beyond). Travel fees may apply for locations outside my immediate area, please inquire for more info.
What do you need from me to set up at an event?
Just a small table, two chairs, and decent lighting if it's an indoor or evening event. I bring everything else: typewriter or writing materials, signage, and any supplies needed.
What's included in the price?
Event packages include my time on-site, all materials (paper, ink, etc.), setup and breakdown, and the personalized poems themselves. Travel fees are additional for events outside my local area.
Can you write poems in languages other than English?
I write exclusively in English, but I'm happy to incorporate meaningful words or phrases from other languages if they're part of your story.
